Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. . . . Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it! William Hutchinson Murrary
There are a couple of ways you can go about getting started at CrossFit Resolve.
One-on-one introductory session
Our preference is for you to arrange a one-on-one introductory session with our head trainer (Brandon Donald). The introductory session is used to familiarise you with the equipment, movements and stimulus that we use in CrossFit. It also helps to ease your transition into the group sessions.
Introductory sessions can be arranged by appointment with Brandon (outside the group session times) by calling him on 0412 442 482. The introductory one-on-one sessions are $80 and you should allow an hour for the session.
One-on-one introductory sessions are the best way to get started as they give you an opportunity to get an introduction and some personal instruction from our head trainer and they allow Brandon to get a sense of where you are at (so he can ensure you are scaling workouts in the group environment appropriately).
Group introductory session
Alternatively, if you just can’t wait to get started, you can jump straight into a group session and we’ll ensure you are looked after. We will modify/scale the workout of the day (ie reduce the weight, rounds and repetitions) so that it is appropriate for you. Your first group session is free.
If you are considering jumping straight into a group session, we recommend arriving 10 minutes early to speak to Brandon and, while not absolutely necessary, it would be helpful if you could send us an email at crossfitresolve@gmail.com to let us know which group session will be your first.
Do I need to be fit to start CrossFit?
Absolutely not (please don't use that as an excuse). The Workout of the Day ("WOD") which appears daily on our website can be scaled to suit any fitness level (if you look at the Comments section each day, you will see that different members do different scaled versions of the WOD depending on their level of fitness and skills development).
What happens in a group session?
Each day we post on our website the Workout of the Day ("WOD"). Everyone in the group session is expected to complete the WOD (although the WOD will be scaled for different individuals). Generally, our members spend the first 5 minutes of the hour long session warming up individually. After the individual warm ups, the lead trainer will call the group together, explain and demonstrate the WOD, lead a group warm up and spend some time teaching the skills necessary to complete the WOD. Following the skills instruction there will be a brief period setting up the gym for the WOD and discussing scaling options. Once eveyone is prepared, the WOD will commence. After eveyone has completed the WOD, the equipment will be put away and there will be a group stretch and debrief.
